Savannah Art & Entertainment District

3 weeks
Tasked with designing an entertainment district for Savannah, GA, I focused on creating a vibrant, unified space that celebrates the city's unique culture and energy. I strategically placed the district to overlap the dynamic Starland Yard and the iconic Landmark Historic District—two areas known for their rich history and bustling modern charm. This location, already thriving with local businesses, craft breweries, and live shows, offered the perfect foundation for a cohesive entertainment hub. By blending the area's historic character with contemporary vibrancy, the district aims to become a central gathering place.

HISTORICAL REFERENCE

Inspiration

General James Oglethorpe established the city of Savannah in 1733, laying out the city with a unique grid system. This grid forms several cobblestoned squares, shaded by oak trees draped with Spanish moss. These squares not only add to the city's aesthetic charm but also provide communal spaces that have become central to Savannah's social life and cultural heritage.

“The city of Savannah is renowned for its unique layout, a vision brought to life by General James Oglethorpe.
He designed the city in a grid of squares, each serving as a communal gathering space,
creating a harmonious blend of urban and natural environments. ”

-  “Savannah in the Old South" by Walter J. Fraser Jr.

DESIGN SYSTEM
Brand Identity

This simple shape, when edited to be made up of dots for a modern look, is the ideal symbol connecting present-day Savannah with its lengthy history. It reflects the city's ability to blend historical preservation with contemporary innovation, highlighting Savannah's timeless appeal and enduring legacy
