Ushpa Cafe

CONCEPT

The "Ushpa" branding project celebrates the rich culture and natural beauty of Peru, designed for a Lima based coffee shop that also sells its own locally-sourced coffee. Named after the Quechua word "Ushpa," the brand features hand-drawn illustrations of three native Peruvian flowers—as its central motifs. The objective of this project was to design a comprehensive branding system for a business of my choice,
and I selected a café. I created nine deliverables to showcase the brand identity, including coffee mugs, menus, stickers, business cards, cups, coffee packaging, a cap, and shipping boxes, all reflecting the vibrant and authentic identity of the café.

HISTORICAL REFERENCE
Inspiration

Ushpa, meaning "ash" in Quechua, is rooted in the beauty and history of Peru. The three flower motifs woven throughout the brand are inspired by Ayacuchan flower embroidery, a craft famous for its vibrant patterns and deep cultural significance. These flowers are more than decoration—they’re a nod to the resilience and artistry of Peru’s traditions. By blending this heritage with a modern coffee shop experience, Ushpa creates a space that feels authentic, warm, and proudly connected to its roots in Lima.

“Peruvian textiles are renowned for their intricate designs, vibrant colors, and rich cultural significance.
For centuries, the Andean people have used weaving as a means of expressing
their identity, history, and beliefs.”
